It's the only quality travel salt water rod I was able to find. It was slightly longer once it was broke down than expected, but still worked great. Just put it as my carry on. Wish it had a better carrying case too. The soft case makes me nervous, but first round using it, it worked out just fine.
Only one whiting on it so far but love the portability and the sensitivity. 2nd toadfish rod and no disappointments so far.
Absolutely love the travel surf rod! First trip with it and it casted a mile and easily handled a couple 5 foot bull sharks. Looks and feels like quality.
I absolutely love this rod. I drive a BMW so I have to get creative with my space. This is the perfect addition to my Surf gear. Very nice case that makes this rod break down into four smaller sections and fits perfectly fine in the trunk or front seat. I love the color, texture and the way it handles with medium and larger fish. Snook, red drums, Jacks, no problem. Nice healthy lengthy casts. I drove to Destin last weekend and it was a great to be able to take a surf rod in the case aboard a plane.
Light, great feel
The rod is nice. Nice smooth cast. Just needs to be lighter for a travel rod. What's makes it hard was the reel. Its heavy compare to the higher end reels I use. The first reel that came with the combo, the reel had issues. The bail for the reel would not close or open. The bail flops around half way open. So emailed for costumer service and I was helped with immediately. A new reel arrived a week later and I was able to use the combo setup. I took the old reel and I opened the mechanism for the bail issue. I opened up the cover that held the spring for the bail. Seems like it was not working properly. Either it was the wrong length or just failed to work even after I tried to fix it. The final verdict for the issue with the reel, Either the spring mechanism for the bail is the wrong length or it could be something else. The spring with the guide bracket did not want to follow the guide in the bail. It would get stuck. Overall the new reel worked perfectly like it should be. So I've decided to give the review for the Travel Surf Rod a rating of 4 Stars.

I purchased this for my son's birthday, but he hasn't gotten it out yet. We did take it out to inspect it, and it looks terrific! It is exactly what he was asking for.
First initial thought on this rod was..Aweome!! I haven't fished it yet but I have a corporate trip this fall to the Charleston area and will be taking this rod to surf fish while there. The rod definitely has a great feel and look. Just bought the 5000 series reel because I didn't realize it was offered as a combo (I didn't look close enough) and it feels perfectly balanced with the 9'2" travel surf rod. Another Christmas gift that will have to wait until Spring for a real review. Not planning to travel at this time either. I like the case for the most part, though it's not terribly protective. The rod sections go together easily and it has a nice feel in the hands. Looking forward to breaking it in when the striped bass come back up in the Spring.
Great for packing in the car. No more broken rod tips. Rod is a good length for getting your cast beyond the breakers. This is my second purchase. I was impressed with the first and wanted two.

I gifted this rod to my boyfriend and he absolutely loves the toadfish brand and how nice it is not to have to worry about traveling with a long surf rod. Compacts down easily and in the case weighs hardly anything.
I bought this travel rod and reel set for my son, who fishes wherever he goes in the world. A Toadfish rep kindly gave me advice on which reel to purchase for his purposes. I cannot yet comment on the functionality of this travel rod and reel set, but if it is anything like the aesthetics, it will be awesome! Everything Toadfish that I have seen is just beautiful. The black with teal trim and accents is a fabulous combination. Even the teal “Toadfish” stitching on the black, slender travel bag is beautiful. Everything looks to be of such high quality, you would expect it to be more expensive. Though it has not been tested, other than to spool the line onto the reel, the fishermen in the family expect it to perform beautifully, from the look and feel of it.

A very good and strong rod…
First time Toadfish buyer with this purchase, but now lifelong customer. Took trip to Florida, had beach snook in mind, this rod made it all possible. Light and easy to carry, and strong backbone with great taper. Won't travel anywhere without this now.
MUST BUY FROM TOADFISH!!! I have been waiting for a product like this for so long - a great, reliable travel surf rod that is built to last. I just finished up a Striper/Bluefish trip to the Cape and this thing was perfect for throwing big plugs/swimbaits. 10/10
