I picked up a 7'6" Flats Bastard on a hunch that it would be a great rod for finesse fishing Smallmouth Bass, as well as inshore. It has not disappointed. It was awesome for site fishing with 1/20 ounce ned rigs for smallies up in the 1000 islands. It is very light, but does have alot more hook setting power than it appears capable of. The 2 piece design is really innovative. The softer tip takes the leverage away from jumping fish while keeping the line taught. The backbone of the rod give you the ability make turn bigger fish when they run. When paired with a 1500 size spinning reel it extremely well balanced and accurate. All in all, a great rod.

Trip to the Exumas. It is able to throw 1/32 oz lures reasonably well. It throws 1/16 and 1/8 like nothing I have ever seen. Bonus: we fished a near shore reef and my kids took all the rods for bottom dropping. The flats bastard was my only option. I used a slow pitch 60 gram jig and caught a huge dogtooth snapper. So it has some back bone too. Be careful during transport. We had no trouble but the ultralight tip might be easily broken

Where to start?! I really enjoy ultralight fishing. The feel of the bite, the ensuing battle once your target is hooked. It’s just….FUN! I have….well, HAD….several pretty high end UL rods in my arsenal. Major brands and JDM stuff as well. This rod is already #2 on my list of all time favs. It doesn’t feel like my Megabass Destroyer, but man, it’s pretty damned close. And for significantly less $$. This rod is special. There’s something about how it transmits bites and feel that makes it almost impossible to miss a fish once he’s there. It’ll cast a country mile, and it’s so light and useable! It’s a really, really good rod for a really fair price. I think you probably won’t find anything better at the same price point! Great purchase and I look forward to years of use! Oh, and about the HAD earlier, I say HAD, because this one was good enough I sold two others!

Store owner replied: 🔥 Thanks for the love! We appreciate you rocking with Toadfish! 🎣

The only concern on the rod is having the blank exposed to the elements. I would like to put shrinkable tubing between the two pieces.

Carrier did not deliver my original rod. Toadfish stepped up and shipped the replacement rod with another carrier without any hassle. Says a lot when there is a problem and it get fixed quickly. I will definitely be buying more fishing gear from Toadfish. Oh, as for the Flats Bastard rod.... it will be a game changer in the marshes, creeks, and estuaries this year!

All Toadfish items I’ve purchased are Christmas presents. Idk if they are a 1-5 star yet. Thank you for asking

Flats Bastard

This rod is incredible! It throws 1/16 -1/8 lures like a champ! I was able to pull in a huge red on the last flood tide and was very impressed with the overall strength of this rod considering how light and tapered it is. Highly recommend.
