A little over a year ago, Casey, the owner of Toadfish rods, reached out to see if I would be interested in testing a few of their new fishing rods. I looked over their website with curiosity and was pleasantly surprised to see a unique but visually appealing product. After a little research, I agreed. I am usually very picky about the products I introduce to my viewers. Why may you ask? I take pride in my reputation, and I try and only recommend quality products that get the job done and products that I would personally use. Casey shipped the rods and notified me; it was three short days before they arrived on my doorstep. I remember giving a silent kudos for the rapid shipping and excellent packaging.

You might be wondering, why does packaging matter? Well, if a company takes pride in the packaging and service. It's typically a great indicator that the product will also be great. Not always, but I think most would agree that the two correlate. I unboxed the rod on camera and discussed all of the unique features that stood out. If you haven't seen the video, sit back and watch this short clip:

Toadfish First Impression

I think it is safe to say most make a first impression or judgment based on how something looks. Well, the Toadfish rod has swagger. The colors turquoise, gray, and black stand out. The fact that all of their rods are this color gives a signature look that makes them distinguishable from other rod companies on the market. I like the colors because they remind me of the water. I imagine that probably was a motivating factor when designing the look, although I am just speculating.

The rod is light but has substance. Have you ever picked something up and instantly assumed it was cheap? Right, when I picked up the Toadfish rod, I liked the feel, sometimes you know when it's right. What impressed me most is the functionality, company cause, and overall product quality. Allow me to elaborate and talk to you about the unique features that were obvious right off the bat.

Toadfish Unique Features

The rod butt was probably the first thing that stood out, it's unique, but it also has a composite/rubber grip that is different from any other rod that I own, and I have hundreds. I have to admit; it took a minute to adjust to the feel but, after a little time, I can say that I like the texture of the grip and handle.

The hidden hook keeper was a nice touch that helps conceal the hook barb while protecting the fisherman. Most rods have a hook keeper, but I can't tell you how many times I have snagged something or myself when grabbing a rod in a hurry. The unique rod construction will help avoid mishaps and unwanted hook piercings.

A few of the features I always look for in a premium rod is a quality guide; I find that cheaper guides break easily and end up costing quite a bit of money for repairs. The Toadfish rods are constructed with high quality Kigan 3d stainless steel guides. They are comparable to Fuji guides and have performed flawlessly over the last year or so.

Toadfish Warranty

The toadfish is a great rod, but I do like that they provide a three-year warranty. It doesn't matter if you have a $100 rod or a $500 fishing rod, they can all be broken, and I have broken them in ALL price ranges. Luckily for me, I haven't yet had to send a rod back to Toadfish, so I can't speak on behalf of their warranty work, but if it is as good as all other aspects of the buying and product experience, I am confident that it will be okay.

The Inshore Fishing Rod

I have been pairing my Toadfish rods with 3000 and 4000 sized reels. Spool the reels with 10-15lb 832 Suffix, and you have a deadly inshore fishing combo. I like the 7'2" medium fast spinning rod for working my lures; I can cast long distances while maintaining accuracy. The new 5' 11" rod is designed for Sheepshead, and it works wonders. I like the shorter rod when fishing reefs and bridge pilings. The tip is sensitive, but the rod has a great backbone to pull the fish from the structure. I am anticipating the launch of the new freshwater Toadfish baitcasting rods to compliment my saltwater spinning line up. They are rumored to be released in the summer of 2020.

Conclusion

The rods have been a great addition to my extensive collection of fishing rods. I always admire companies that are trying to evolve the sport and who bring unique products to the market. If you're looking to try something new, give these guys a shot. Toadfish rods have an average price of $120, it is very little to lose but a ton to gain. Have you personally tried Toadfish rods? What are your overall thoughts? Have they met your expectations? What could be better?

So….when you are using a rod and it breaks….are you getting a new rod under your three year warranty? If a rod is manufactured correctly with no defects, this shouldn’t happen . For some companies manufacturing defects means no protection at all. So yes or no. And have you ever replaced a rod when it breaks while using it??
